Carlton’s Darcy Vescio says she feels most natural spearheading the Blues’ forward line.

The marquee player stole the show in the Blues’ season opener, booting four goals as a full-forward to lead the AFLW goalkicking chart after Round 1.

Despite being able to play a multitude of the roles, the 23-year-old admitted the forward line is where she hopes to stay.

“I’m probably most comfortable around goal,” Vescio told SEN 1116 on Tuesday.

“I try to push up every now and then but I probably get a bit lost the further I get from goal.

“Predominantly, I’ll be in the forward line.”

Carlton’s No.3 acknowledged the support she’s received so far and expressed her excitement by the impact women’s footy has had on the broader community.

“A few people have come up and spoken about Friday night’s game,” she said.

“It’s so wonderful to see footy reaching people who it just hasn’t reached before.”

Growing up in Wangaratta, Vescio’s football career began at age five but with no competition for girls beyond the age of 14, Vescio was forced to hang up her footy boots.

“I had to give it (football) up and to be honest, I never thought I’d be playing again,” she said.

“It’s pretty special what’s going on now.”

With the AFLW competition up and running, Vescio is confident that women will one day be full-time footballers.

And she hopes to be a part of that generation.

“I don’t know how far away that (full-time footy) would be but I’m pretty lucky being a bit younger so I might even see the day,” she said.

“Ultimately, that’d be amazing.”

Carlton returns to Ikon Park on Saturday to take on Greater Western Sydney from 5:05pm, with entry again free.
