Mitch Robinson has had his rough conduct charge downgraded from intentional to reckless – meaning he is free to take on the Brisbane Lions this weekend.

The young Carlton midfielder had been reported by emergency umpire Shane Stewart, who told the tribunal he had an unimpeded view of his clash with West Coast’s Adam Selwood.

The pair clashed near the interchange area as Robinson was leaving the field. There was some debate as to whether Selwood was entering or leaving the field of play, however the emergency umpire said he was clear as to the magnitude of the bump he witnessed.

“On a rating scale … out of five it would have been a four-and-a-half,” Stewart said.

Robinson said he was running towards the bench at three-quarter pace as he prepared to rotate with Jordan Russell, when he saw Selwood out of the corner of his eye and simply prepared himself for the collision.

“In that [last] five metres, running at that pace, it’s pretty hard to [stop],” he said.

Robinson was still found guilty of the charge, however the downgrade from intentional rough conduct to reckless resulted in a significant drop in demerit points.

He escaped with 93.75 demerit points and is free to play this weekend.
