You can’t miss Levi Casboult on the footy field.
At almost two metres tall, and weighing in a touch over 100 kilograms, his presence is an imposing one.
But the big man has revealed he has faced a battle within himself to be able to use that size to his advantage.
Speaking on Croc Media’s Sportsday this week, Casboult said he has struggled with confidence and has been working hard to turn that around.
“I’m a pretty big guy, so it’s more just that belief that I can use my size to match it with the guys at AFL level, but then also to be able to use my athleticism as well to get up and take pack marks,” Casboult said.
“It was the same coming from TAC Cup to VFL, it took me a while to get from that level and then another step up to AFL level.
“So it’s been a bit of a process, of more the mental side and working with some of the coaches, (to believe) that I can actually do it.”
But “do it” he has this season, running out for 12 senior games and earning a nomination for the AFL’s Mark of the Year in Round 13.
On the back of his career high four-goal haul in Sunday’s win over St Kilda, Casboult said he feels he is growing in confidence.
“I’d been looking for a bit of consistency all year and I felt that I’d been playing some good footy without dominating or getting a lot of scoreboard pressure,” Casboult said.
“But in the last month or so I’ve been able to kick a few goals and take a few big grabs, which has been nice.”
Casboult’s form has caught the eye of Wayne Carey, who says the 24-year-old may just have the best hands in the business.
It’s a big call to make on someone with just 29 AFL games under their belt, but Carlton fans will be hoping Carey is on the money, because coupled with Rising Star nominee Troy Menzel, Cabsoult’s big size and steady hands will make for a potent force in the Blues forward line.
