Carlton recruit Luke Mitchell has suffered a minor setback as he prepares for his first season of senior League football.

Mitchell underwent a right shoulder scope after sustaining the injury at training earlier in the month.

Carlton’s General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke told carltonfc.com.au that the injury is likely to sideline Mitchell for 14-16 weeks.

“Following consultation with the surgeon and our medical team we determined it was in Luke’s best interests to repair the shoulder now, allowing him to play the 2011 season with a stable right shoulder,” Icke said.

“While it is disappointing for Luke, we expect him to return to full training prior to the start of the season, giving him every opportunity to be available for selection early in 2011.

Mitchell missed a large chunk of last year’s TAC Cup season with a left shoulder injury.
