Bryce Gibbs will return for Carlton for the season opener against Richmond at the MCG on Thursday.
The vice-captain has taken part in full training this week after recovering from a knock to the shoulder in the NAB Challenge.
Ruckman Rob Warnock is also recovering from a shoulder knock and will be tested at training on Wednesday.
Meanwhile Head of Football Andrew McKay says Andrew Walker won't play this week.
"Andrew's been ruled out," McKay said.
"He's had that minor operation with his knee a number of weeks ago and it's been a good progression, but it hasn't quite come up for round one, so we will look to get him back in the next week or two."
There's good news for Matthew Kreuzer who is out of the moon boot, while Irishman Ciaran Sheehan is on the mend from a groin injury and will be in contention to play early in the season after being listed as a nominated rookie.
Injury List:
Gibbs (shoulder) test
Giles (foot) indefinite
Kreuzer (foot) 3 weeks
Sheehan (groin) 1-2 weeks
Walker (knee) 2 weeks
Warnock (shoulder) test
Whiley (Achilles) 2 weeks
