Carlton’s partner school, Antonine College, has taken home the top prize in the girls division at the Australia Post Multicultural Secondary Schools State Cup.
The round-robin competition was held at Ross Straw Field in Parkville last week, with Antonine College defeating St Aloysius College in the girls final.
For the first time in the program’s history the girls outnumbered the boys, with nine female teams and seven male teams taking part!
There’s a strong Carlton connection with Antonine College. Kristian Koutoufides, the brother of Carlton champion Anthony, is a teacher at the school.
The Australia Post Multicultural Secondary Schools Cup allows students from years 8-10 who were born overseas or have parent born overseas to experience playing Aussie rules.
Each year the Carlton Football Club delivers its own Multicultural Schools Program to more than 1,200 primary school aged children at 11 schools in Melbourne's northern corridor.
The students who take part are predominantly from migrant and refugee backgrounds across Carlton's heartland.
