SUMMARY
These arch rivals always draw a big crowd in the season opener and this should be no exception after an extended build-up due to cricket's World Cup. Of their seven opening round clashes since 2007, the Blues have won five, although the Tigers held on to win the last one in 2013 by five points. During this pre-season rival captains Marc Murphy and Trent Cotchin have had limited preparations due to injury concerns. Carlton has shown more attacking flair in the NAB Challenge, with Chris Yarran shaping as a key player on Thursday night. Richmond will be keen to kick off on a winning note after last year's elimination final drubbing.

Dale Thomas. He is in much better physical shape as he enters his second season with the Blues and they would be expecting greater return on their investment. Despite having limited game-time during the NAB Challenge, the former Magpie is likely to play a more attacking role this season.
