The Carlton Football Club has commenced assessing the playing list for the 2008 season and has advised David Teague, Dylan McLaren, Ross Young, Anthony Raso and Craig Flint that they will not receive a new playing contract for the 2008 season as part of the changes to the Carlton team.
David Teague played 50 games for Carlton after joining the Blues from the Kangaroos at the end of the 2003 season. He had an immediate impact at Carlton winning the 2004 John Nicholls Medal and he was also a member of Carlton’s 2005 pre-season premiership side. Teague was recruited from Katandra via the Murray Under 18s and Kangaroos and he played a total of 83 AFL games, making his AFL debut in 2001 and his Carlton debut in 2004.
“David is a Carlton Best & Fairest winner and he was the inaugural winner of the John Nicholls Medal in 2004. He has been an outstanding clubman and wonderful ambassador for the Carlton Football Club during his four years at Carlton,” said Steven Icke General Manager Football Operations.
Dylan McLaren joined Carlton from the Brisbane Lions via the 2006 pre-season draft and he played 13 games at Carlton, all in 2006. Originally from Sale and the Gippsland Under 18s he played a total of 59 AFL matches after making his debut with Brisbane in 2001.
Ross Young was Carlton’s first mature age Rookie selected in the Rookie Draft in December 2006. He was recruited from Donald in regional Victoria via the Northern Bullants and was elevated to Carlton’s senior list during the 2007 season. He made his debut in round six and played six games.
Anthony Raso was Carlton’s seventh round selection, the final selection in the 2004 NAB AFL National Draft. Recruited from Mt Eliza via the Dandenong Under 18s his three seasons at Carlton were interrupted by illness and injury and he did not play a senior game.
Craig Flint joined Carlton as a Rookie List player in 2006 and was elevated to the senior list at the end of the 2006 season. Originally from Sale via the Gippsland Under 18s injury restricted his 2006 season and he did not play a senior game during his two seasons at Carlton.
“We sincerely thank the players for the commitment they have given to the Carlton Football Club during their careers and we wish them well going forward,” said Steven Icke.
These announcements make a total of seven changes to the Carlton team since the end of the season with Anthony Koutoufides and Matthew Lappin having already announced their retirement.
