See some of the stars of Carlton’s past run out on the field again, when Etihad Stadium plays host to the 2013 Ray White EJ Whitten Legends Game on Wednesday 10 July.

The Vics are headlined by a number of Carlton legends including ex-Blues spearhead Brendan Fevola. “Fev” kicked 575 goals in 187 games with Carlton and last year marked his debut appearance in the Legends Game with an impressive nine-goal haul earning him man-of –the-match honours.  This year he has vowed double figures are in order.

Also impressing was an old partner in crime in the Blues’ forward line of yesteryear, Lance Whitnall.   “Big Red” (338 goals in 216 games for the Blues) figured in the Big V’s six point win last year  and this year, the veteran of this landmark game pulls the boots back on for his sixth consecutive appearance.

Lining up for the Vics this year is rookie Ryan Houlihan. The versatile attacker and defender, who kicked 127 goals in 201 games, retired at the end of 2012 and he is certain to add some youth and extra pace from a defence containing Michael Martyn, who also played for the Blues, managing 13 games before his retirement in 2003.

Celebrating the 18th year of the game, the scoreboard is locked with eight wins a piece and one draw. The Vics have employed a succession plan with two-time winning coach Sam Newman handing over the reins this year to Doug Hawkins.  Terry Daniher returns as the coach of the All Stars.

With matters of health usually a no-go zone for men, the Ray White EJ Whitten Legends Game shines a spotlight on men’s health issues through their much-loved pastime of sport laced with a touch of humour.

Etihad Stadium managers have guaranteed they will be seating their 30 Millionth patron at the Legends. The lucky spectator named as the 30 Millionth patron wins 2 return flights to Europe or the UK just for supporting the cause!

Each year in Australia, more than 3300 men die of prostate cancer and around 20,000 new cases are diagnosed. Approximately one in nine Australian men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime. The EJ Whitten Foundation, which was formed in 1995 to commemorate the legacy Ted Whitten, aims to increase national awareness of prostate cancer, promote early detection and raise funds for research into the disease.

For the players it is game on for a serious cause and their competitive spirit remains undiminished. They bring all the showmanship and skills that made them greats of the game with four quarters of fiercely contested footy.

Make sure you get along and support your blue boys!  Tickets at the gate.
