Carlton’s list management team will be looking for leg speed in the upcoming trade period.
The AFL will abolish the sub rule and reduce the interchange cap from 120 to 90 rotations from season 2016.
Carlton’s Head of Football Andrew McKay has told SEN it will be a factor in their considerations in the upcoming trade period.
“Obviously with the interchange coming down again next year we want some leg speed and some real run in their legs, not just speed but some endurance as well,” McKay said.
Carlton is expected to be active again this trade period, with plenty of speculation already linking a number of players to the Blues.
Meanwhile one player set to depart is Lachie Henderson, who has requested to be traded.
McKay says while Henderson would like to go to Geelong, a deal isn’t certain.
“We need to look after the football club and get the best possible result for the football club,” McKay said.
“Certainly I think Lachie is worth a first-round draft pick, so we’ve got to play that out with Geelong or whoever it may be.”
Another player who has been the subject of trade speculation is Chris Yarran.
McKay says although Yarran has been linked to the Tigers, so far it’s just speculation.
“Certainly there’s a bit of talk that he wants to go to Richmond,” McKay said.
“Richmond hasn’t approached us at all and he is a contracted player still, so I think there is a bit of water to flow under the bridge.”
The AFL Trade Period commences on Monday 12 October.
