Carlton Coach Mick Malthouse says he’s preparing his side to take on the Gold Coast, not just Gary Ablett.

The Blues face the Suns at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

Malthouse says while Ablett may be the best player in the competition, the Suns have plenty of other men who will present a challenge.

“We have to put some time into him, but we also have to put some time into a lot of other players.”

“If it was just Ablett I would be quite happy. But it’s no longer just Gary Ablett – it’s the team.”

Ablett is again the short-priced favourite for this year’s Brownlow Medal.

The Suns skipper picked up 49 possessions in the Gold Coast’s upset win over Collingwood last week.

Malthouse wouldn’t be drawn on how he plans to limit Ablett’s impact on the game, or on the possibility of him lining up against Chris Judd, in a dream match-up of Brownlow Medalists.

“I dare say they’ll look at each other occasionally. I hope they do – I hope our bloke does anyway!”
