Carlton talls Matthew Kreuzer and Liam Jones have been rewarded with ‘Team of the Week’ honours following their efforts in the Blues’ 12-point loss to Adelaide on Saturday.
With another strong individual performance, Kreuzer earned his spot in AFL Media’s Round 15 team after he outshone former teammate Sam Jacobs with 42 hitouts, 14 disposals and eight marks.
For the second consecutive week, the 28-year-old was selected in the line-up as a follower, with Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell and Sydney’s Luke Parker by his side.
Meanwhile, in the company of Hawthorn’s Ryan Burton and Adelaide’s Brodie Smith, Jones was listed in the team as a full-back after he managed a game-high seven intercept marks as well as 19 disposals and 10 one-percenters against the Crows.
The 26-year-old’s appearance in this week’s best 22 marks his second since his return to the Blues’ senior team in Round 12.
As two impressive performers for the Blues at the MCG on Saturday, Kreuzer and Jones also received praise from senior coaches Brendon Bolton and Don Pyke, with two and three votes afforded to the players respectively, for the 2017 Shadforth Financial Group AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award.
While Patrick Cripps also received one vote for the award, it was fellow midfielder Bryce Gibbs (8) who tallied the most votes for either side, after he amassed 30 disposals, a career-high 15 tackles and two goals in the Round 14 encounter.
Solid performances from all four Blues will again be required when Carlton heads back to the MCG to face Melbourne on Sunday 9 July from 3:20pm.
