CARLTON looks set to take on West Coast in Saturday night's semi-final without Bryce Gibbs and Matthew Kreuzer.

Gibbs sprained the AC joint in his left shoulder when he fell heavily in the dying minutes of the Blues' elimination final win against Essendon on Sunday, and still required the use of a sling on Monday.

Kreuzer reported numbness in his left foot during the warm-up for the round 24 clash against St Kilda, and was subbed out of the game in the second quarter when his condition did not improve.

The 22-year-old spent the night in hospital and was ruled out of the elimination final despite being discharged without undergoing any surgical procedures.

Speaking on Melbourne radio station SEN on Tuesday, Carlton chief executive Greg Swann cast doubt on the availability of the important pair for the must-win clash with the Eagles.

"[Gibbs' injury] was a bit of a blow. It's not season ending, but he's a bit sore," Swann said.

"I saw him yesterday and he'd be doubtful this week.

"[Kreuzer] is fine when he walks around, but when he runs he gets numbness in his foot.

"He's been to see three specialists. Some are saying that it could just disappear, so he had the rest last week.

"He's going to try and train again tomorrow and we'll see how he comes up, but if there's any issue with it then we will be very conservative. He's going to be a 10-year player for us and we just want to look after him."

The news comes just a day after important forward Jarrad Waite lost his battle to regain full fitness in time to take part in the club's finals campaign.

The 28-year-old Waite underwent hip surgery after the round 16 loss to the Western Bulldogs, but was expected to return to the team in time for the finals.

However, he reported soreness whenever he tried to run at the level required to push for senior selection, and the decision was made to book him in for further surgery on Monday that will rule him out for the rest of the season.

In other Carlton news, Swann rejected the suggestion that out-of-favour defender Jordan Russell is headed for Greater Western Sydney.

"He's contracted for next year," Swann said.

"He played well at the weekend [for the Bullants] so he'd be in the mix [as will] Zach Tuohy. He's pushing up, and we certainly haven't had any indications that Jordan will be anywhere other than Carlton next year."
