Former Carlton Premiership half-forward Wayne Johnston, unquestionably the greatest finals participant never to win a Norm Smith Medal, is to be guest speaker at a Luncheon convened by his old teammate and Senior Coach Peter ‘Percy” Jones.

Johnston has agreed to reflect on his glorious Carlton career – which yielded four Premierships and two best and fairests through 209 games in 12 seasons - at the North Fitzroy Arms hotel where Jones is mine host, on the afternoon of Friday, February 23.

Jones (himself a four-time Carlton Premiership player and club B & F) and Johnston were part of the triumphant Grand Final team of 1979 – co-incidentally Jones’ 249th and last on-field appearance – and the former coached the latter the following year.

"‘The Dominator’ copped some injuries, but he was always a good player, particularly in finals,” said Jones of Johnston yesterday, “and four flags and two B&Fs isn’t a bad effort is it?”

Members and supporters are welcome to attend the Luncheon, commencing 12.30pm at the North Fitzroy Arms, 296 Rae Street, North Fitzroy, and hear from Johnston, Carlton’s Team of the Century half-forward and Hall of Fame Legend.

There are no pre-bookings, with guests encouraged to purchase their drinks and place their Luncheon order over the bar prior to Johnston’s address.
