Carlton will face one of its toughest challenges so far this season when it takes on the Greater Western Sydney Giants at Spotless Stadium in a Saturday twilight clash.

Speaking to the media ahead of the match, Giants coach Leon Cameron acknowledged the improved form of Brendon Bolton’s developing Carlton squad.

“We need to be prepared for Carlton on the weekend because clearly they’re playing some really good footy and their year is well and truly alive. They’ve got an enormous amount of talent that’s coming through and they’re really well coached.” Cameron said.

“They’re well drilled, they have a great method of moving the footy, they have a great method of defending the opposition.

“They (Carlton) are going to be absolutely up for this challenge. They’ve come off a bye so they’re going to be fresh and ready to go.”

GWS will be looking to uphold its perfect home record and will no doubt ooze confidence, having convincingly beaten Sydney and Hawthorn at Spotless Stadium in recent weeks.

Despite withstanding an improved Essendon to take home the four points last week, Cameron said his side would need to up the ante against the Blues. 

“There were some poor performances on the weekend. We didn’t play at the level we needed to,” he said.

“We’ve played some good footy here during the year at Spotless. We like to play here at home and we’ve got to make sure we produce that (good footy) this week because anything short of that we’ll get beaten.

“We need to play at our absolute best and we’re confident that we can.”

The Giants have regained 524 games of experience with old heads Shane Mumford, Steve Johnson and Rhys Palmer returning at the expense of young gun Jacob Hopper (managed), Tom Downie (omitted) and Sam Reid (omitted).

The trio will no doubt strengthen a GWS line-up spearheaded by star forward Jeremy Cameron, who has kicked the Sherrin through the big sticks 25 times this year.

Despite booting only four goals in his past four games, the dangerous forward has an impeccable record against the Blues, averaging just under five goals a game.

In the last meeting between these two sides, GWS took the upper hand with an 81-point victory, with Cameron’s seven goals equalling the Blues’ total for the game.

GWS, which is currently placed in fifth position on the AFL ladder, is ranked second in the competition’s clearance count and will pose a significant test for the 11^th-placed Carlton, which is ranked 15^th in this category.
