As the Blues prepare to play their final NAB Challenge game against Sydney this Friday night, coach Brendon Bolton says with every match and every training session the team is building “synergy”.
Speaking to SEN’s Breakfast show on Thursday morning, ‘Bolts’ reiterated the pre-season competition was a valuable way to work out how players think, react and learn.
“It’s an exciting time because we’ve introduced 15 new players and a lot of new coaches, so we’re building synergy together,” Bolton said.
“I know it builds over time and we’re all very different as people, so some (players) get a quick understanding of it and some take time.”
Understanding players’ mentalities and what “triggers good performances” enables Bolton to build strong relationships and instill valuable lessons.
“It’s really important that our players think so the coaches don’t do all the thinking for them, and they get a chance to analyse and evaluate the game,” Bolton said.
As the NAB Challenge draws to a close, the anticipation and excitement surrounding Carlton’s Round 1 clash with Richmond has also started to gather momentum.
After a solid pre-season and two practice matches, with one still to be played, the steady build to the season opener has Bolton excited.
“One thing members want is effort and unity, so we’re really hopeful in Round 1 we can put a really competitive effort out there and show a real united front … that makes a strong club, when you’re all on the same page,” he said.
