A FAILURE to match Adelaide’s intensity is the reason for Carlton’s heavy defeat to the Crows on Saturday, according to ruckman Matthew Kreuzer.

The Blues were comprehensively outplayed in the first half and were held goalless until early in the third quarter. They rallied but still went down to the tune of 44 points.

Kreuzer believes the Blues weren’t able to match the Crows pressure and as a result, weren’t able to move the ball through the midfield as freely.

“Their pressure was just really good and it crammed us up a bit and didn’t allow us much ball movement.

“We looked to take the game on a bit more after half time and move the ball more quickly ... We thought we had a good chance during the third quarter and although the boys turned it around, we ran out of legs in the end.”

Like many teams before, Carlton struggled to break through Adelaide’s well drilled zone, which resulted in a struggle to get the ball into the forward 50.

“We struggled (with the zone) a bit and we were second to the footy.

“We managed turn that around in the second half and make a bit more of a contest.

“They are a really good rebound side so we had to try and get on our game there as well, but I thought the tackling was OK.

Kreuzer doesn’t believe there is any reason for panic and believes Carlton’s inconsistency can be put down to the youth on its list.

“We’ve still got a long way to go and hopefully next week we can turn it around and get a win.

“We thought they would lift a bit, but we came over knowing exactly what we had to do and what our jobs were, but in the end they were just too good.
