Carlton refused to yield to Melbourne in its 20-point win at the MCG on Sunday, producing a four-quarter performance.
Which player stats had the biggest say on the result? All is revealed...
Patrick Cripps
Game–high 12 clearances
The Demons had no answer for the league’s clearance king, who obliterated Melbourne’s midfield from start to finish. Cripps finished with game-high numbers in contested possessions (19), tackles (13), pressure acts (32) and score involvements (nine), but it was his clearance work that impressed most. Melbourne has been formidable in centre clearances this season, but Carlton won this count 12-4, with Cripps registering three. Cripps leads the AFL for clearances with 175 - a healthy 20 ahead of second-placed Lachie Neale.
Bryce Gibbs
Game-high 7 inside 50s
Gibbs created headaches all day for Melbourne, finding the footy 33 times and using it to devastating effect forward of centre. He played a starring role in the first half with 26 disposals, finishing with a game-high seven inside 50s and team-high two score assists.

Dylan Buckley
Career-high 3 goals
Buckley thrived as a small forward on a wet and slippery MCG surface. The livewire set the tone early with the first goal of the game inside the opening minute, and didn’t let his guard down to finish with a career-high three goals. His long-range goal on the stroke of three-quarter time brought the house down, gifting the Blues a vital four-goal buffer.

Jacob Weitering
Game-high 9 intercepts
The Demons had 55 inside 50s but could only manage seven goals – a testament to the cohesion of Carlton’s back six. Weitering was one of the pillars of the defence, recording a game-high nine intercepts to once again highlight his superior ability to read the play.
Sam Docherty
Game-high 613m gained
The Blues’ defenders racked up impressive numbers against Melbourne, with Docherty again leading the charge. The 22-year-old gathered 26 disposals and made them count with a game-high 613m gained, making him the best player on the ground for moving the ball forward.
