New Blues recruit Caleb Marchbank has already impressed on the training track, according to defensive coach Dale Amos.
Marchbank arrived at Ikon Park in October via the AFL Trade Period after the defender played seven games at GWS since 2015.
“His fitness levels are really solid, he’s a very good runner naturally. Not only that, he is a terrific young man and we’re hopeful he will play a lot of footy for us,” Amos said.
“Across Marchbank, Weitering, Plowman, Docherty and Byrne in particular, they are the younger guys in our backline coming through that we’re hopeful will play a stack of footy together.
“Caleb will hopefully be an important part of that (backline). The way he has come in from an attitude perspective, as well as his training has been really impressive.”
With one of the youngest lists in the competition, Amos said Carlton supporters would be pleased to see the Blues’ broader development over the coming years.
“The young talent and the change in our list over the last two years has been really exciting,” Amos told EON Sports Radio on Friday morning.
“The fact we now have 13 players under 21, we know we have a young list but we’re hopeful this group will play a lot of footy together moving forward. For Carlton supporters, I think they can be really excited by that.”
Speaking from the Gold Coast, Amos said the 10-day training camp was a good chance for the Blues’ players to form strong relationships across the football club.
“It’s a great chance for us to get away and work really hard through a solid block of about 10 days as a group,” he said.
“There has been a lot of hard work, the heat up here is a real benefit. The capacity to be able to train really hard, then recover well at the beach is something the boys enjoy.
“It also gives you a chance to be away from your normal environment and gives you a chance to form some really strong bonds and relationships when you’re away together.”
