In-form Carlton defender Sam Docherty is confident his side can turn its fortunes around against West Coast at the MCG on Sunday.

The Blues enter the clash on the back of a four-game losing streak and have worked hard on improving their efficiency in their forward half, according to Docherty.

“The last few weeks we’ve just wasted our opportunities.” Docherty told SEN on Friday.

“We’ve been in games but we’ve had an inability to put the score on the board. We’ve turned balls over that we should be scoring.

“If we tidy that up and stick to what we know and what we’re trying to build as a footy club, it (Sunday’s game) should be a much better effort.”

Heading into the clash without regular forwards Levi Casboult (suspended) and Andrew Walker (knee), Carlton will be looking to maximise the strengths of Dennis Armfield and Jack Silvagni, who will be supported in attack by inclusions Kristian Jaksch and Charlie Curnow.

“Dennis (Armfield) is really, really quick and provides a lot of energy,” Docherty said.

“Jack (Silvagni) is a very smart footballer. He’s got a good footy brain and he gets to good spots.”

Despite West Coast winning just two of its six interstate matches this season, Docherty acknowledged the challenge that awaits his side in matching up against last year’s grand finalist.

“They’re a great side. They play a very good team brand of footy,” he said.

“It’s a big test, but if we want to get to where we want to get, we’ve got to knock these (top-eight) teams over.”

The Blues will sport a new look on Sunday, with orange socks to replace navy blue as part of CARLTON RESPECTS, the Club’s new family violence prevention initiative.

“It’s a great initiative that the Club’s put out to try and put a stop to family violence and raise awareness for it,” Docherty said.

“I urge all Carlton supporters and supporters that are going to the game to wear something orange as well.”
