A charity house auction fundraiser to aid The Northern Hospital was kicked off today at Aurora in Epping North by players from the Carlton Football Club and ex Carlton champion, Planning Minister Justin Madden.

Mr Madden joined players from his former football club, Bryce Gibbs and Matthew Kreuzer, who were on site to lend a hand at the launch, as well as organisers from The Northern Hospital, VicUrban and Orbit.

Gibbs is undertaking a carpentry apprenticeship with Orbit homes and has worked on the charity home in the lead up to today's launch. He was flanked by team mate Kreuzer, a local northern suburbs boy.

The double-storey, four bedroom Northwood home will be auctioned on September 13 and must sell on the day with every dollar going to The Northern Hospital.

“Aurora’s charity house and land auction is an example of significant organisations such as VicUrban, Orbit and Carlton using a unique opportunity to work with community groups to make a positive difference,” Mr Madden said.

“It’s great to see so many people pitching in to help this great cause and this will be another significant day in September not to be missed,” he said.

Carlton, CEO Greg Swann told carltonfc.com.au that the Carlton Football Club’s goal is to become the AFL’s most environmentally friendly Club.

“The Aurora development is the most sustainable housing development of its kind in Australia and this project further promotes the environmental friendly message that Carlton is promoting in the community,” Mr Swann said.

“We are pleased to be working with VicUrban, the Victorian Government’s sustainability development agency, and we look forward to further developing this association as part of our ongoing work in the community to promote the care of our environment.”Swann added.

The home will be open for inspection at Aurora in Epping North from Wednesday August 13; Wednesdays 5.00 – 6.00pm and Saturdays and Sundays 1.00 -2.00 pm in the lead up to the auction on September 13, 2008 at 11.30am.
