The Carlton Football Club, in partnership with Visy, conducted another Visy in Schools presentation at Bentleigh West Primary School last week.
The program forms part of a pro-active campaign to increase the awareness of recycling and the environment.
A number of Carlton players have already undergone training sessions to become official environmental ambassadors.
Three of them – Jake Edwards, Paul Bower and Jason Saddington – visited Bentleigh West last Thursday.
Edwards, Bower and Saddington were joined by fellow Carlton Football Club Environmental Ambassadors Cameron Cloke and Eddie Betts last month in preparation for the Visy “Effective Disposals” Junior Clinics. The Ambassadors visited the Visy Material Recycling Facility at Springvale.
At the site which sorts approx 1000 tonnes per day, players were taken on a tour of the recycling facility and shown the steps that are taken to turn recyclable items such as food and beverage packaging into a reusable resource for reprocessing into new products.
Players learnt that by recycling we are all 'closing the loop' and saving precious natural resources from ending up in landfill and by recycling we are all ‘Closing the Loop’.
Recyclables: ‘Closing the loop starts with you recycling
Sorting Stage: At Visy Recycling’s Materials Sorting Facility, recyclables are sorted by hand and machine
Reprocess Stage: All recyclables that have been sorted and baled are reprocessed into new products and packaging
Consume: Remember to buy things in packaging that can be recycled.
Did you know? Aluminium consumes a large amount of electricity in its creation. By recycling our aluminium cans, we are saving 95% of the energy that was required to process it in the first place.'
