In 2008, through our partnership with Visy, Carlton’s community involvement will include education programs relating to the environment in a pro-active campaign to increase awareness of recycling and our environment. This is part of Carlton’s objective to become the most environmentally friendly club in the AFL. “Ratten’s Recycling” is a regular update from Carlton Coach Brett Ratten on how the Club and supporters can make a difference.
The Carlton Football Club and Visy are rapt to bring you the latest in recycling. We’re passionate about footy– but that’s not all we get excited about. We know how important it is to look after the environment we play in. With help from Visy, we hope to show Carlton supporters a few quick and easy steps on how you can do your bit to fight climate change.
Recycling is one of the best ways to reduce waste from ending up in landfill. Recycling materials such as steel, aluminium, glass, plastic containers, paper and cardboard enable companies like Visy to turn them into new packaging products. It’s easy to do when you know how, so watch this space for regular environmental updates and recycling tips.
HOME
The team at Carlton do their best to take care of our home at Princes Park, and it’s easy for supporters to look after their own home grounds. The actions of one household can make a real difference to the big picture. Small changes around the house can save money and help reduce your impact on global warming.
Fact:
Every week more than 2.3 million Australian households put out recyclable materials for collection or processing by Visy. This means 500,000 tonnes of recyclable rubbish is diverted from landfill – that’s enough to fill the MCG 2.6 times!
Tips:
- Use a tub or basket (rather than plastic bags) to transport recyclables from kitchen to recycling bin.
- Plastic lid containers and labels can be included in recycling
- To conserve water, it is not necessary to rinse containers out
