The program was developed following a positive reaction from the Club's Youth Sport Ready program, which provides an insight into the benefits of sport in assisting young people with future employment opportunities.
Carlton's Andrew McInnes, Dylan Buckley and Mitch Robinson have been frequent visitors to Parkville's Youth Justice Centre, a correctional facility which houses approximately 20 youths aged between 14 – 18 years.
Carlton's Player Welfare Manager James Golds says the Youth Empowerment Program is an important part of the players' development.
"An integral part of the welfare and development program aims to involve players in community partnerships,” Golds said.
"Players are encouraged to develop a social conscience and responsibility to holistically enhance their development."
