It's not often that sport is used as a tool in assisting young people with finding work.
But when it comes to the Carlton Football Club's Youth Sport Ready program, sport is the key ingredient.
In partnering with the Brotherhood of St Laurence's Youth Job Ready program, Youth Sport Ready provides an insight into the benefits of sport in assisting young people with future employment opportunities.
Eighteen young people with varied educational backgrounds are taking part in the five-week course, where they meet on a weekly basis.
Each session covers a range of sport-related topics, which include: values in sport, health in sport, goal setting in sport and jobs in sport.
At the conclusion of the program, the students receive a Certificate II in Life Skills as well as an official document from the Carlton Football Club verifying their involvement.
Carlton Football Club's Fan Development, Diversity and Community Manager Shawn Wilkey says it's just another example of how sport and education can go hand-in-hand.
"This program demonstrates the powerful results that can be achieved when education and sport are delivered in partnership," Wilkey said.
"By integrating Youth Sport Ready modules into the Youth Job Ready program, the participants are able to build critical skills that are essential for gaining ongoing employment."
