Yarra Valley Community Camp Day 2
Check out Simmo's Diary from Day 2 of the Community Camp
Following breakfast we went for a walk around the Country Club, and then the playing group conducted several meetings.
We then had about 45 minutes to ourselves; most of the boys check out of their rooms and then played a bit of pool or sat in the lounge reading the papers.
At 11am we gathered in the RACV Country Club’s lecture theatre for a meeting with our footy admin manager and media manager then had an early lunch before boarding the bus for Kinglake.
While most of the team made the journey to Kinglake, a small group of players made jumped into a few cars and headed to local hospitals and aged care facilities.
We arrived at the Kinglake Temporary village and made our way to the community facility. The large room is made up of five or six kitchens on each side, with eating areas in the middle. The area is also used for meetings and a number of community activities.
The village manager, Arwon, educated us on the village and the people who are living there, we then went for a walk around the village not only stopping for photos and autographs, but importantly talking to those directly affected by last year’s tragic events.
We also walked down Kinglake’s main street, speaking to locals and entering a number local businesses and let me tell you, I think the local bakery were rapt to see us!
Visits like that are real eye openers, and it brings everything into perspective, I hope it was beneficial for those we visited.
We headed back to the RACV Club at Healesville to pick up the boys who went to the hospitals, they then joined us on the bus and we started our trip back to Visy Park.
