Eddie Betts will wear green boots in Friday night’s match against Geelong. No Eddie is not looking for the Brownlow votes he is wearing the green Nike boots to promote environmental awareness.

Eddie is a Carlton environmental ambassador in the Visy Effective Disposals Schools Program and he is taking his role onto the field in a very public manner. While the AFL’s Green Round is next week (round 20 when Carlton play Port Adelaide in Adelaide), Carlton is celebrating a week earlier at a home game when the club has the opportunity to further promote the important role we all play in caring for our environment.

As well as an environmental promotion the green boots will also have a direct benefit to some Carlton members. Carlton and Visy will donate 10 ACF Green Home starter kits to Carlton members for every possession Eddie has during the match against Geelong.

There will be a number of activities around the MCG on Friday night to promote ways we can care of our environment and supporters will be encouraged to get involved.

In 2007 Visy and the Carlton Football Club announced a partnership that would turn the good old dark navy blues a new colour – green. With the help from Visy, Carlton has set out to become an AFL green club, with a host of environmentally friendly initiatives to impact the Club, players and supporters.

Eddie wearing green boots and the other activities being conducted on the night further highlight the role Carlton is playing to help our environment and the important education role the Club plays through the Visy Effective Schools Program.
