For the second consecutive year, Carlton AFLW player Darcy Vescio will represent the Blues as an Australia Post AFL Multicultural Ambassador.
As one of 19 footballers announced as Multicultural Ambassadors on Wednesday, Vescio will continue to promote the diverse backgrounds in Australia’s Game in 2017.
This year’s ambassadors are representative of both the men’s and women’s competitions, with Vescio joined by three other female footballers, an increase from two in 2016.
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said the ambassadors would be integral to the continued promotion of multiculturalism within and beyond Australian Football.
“The Ambassadors represent 12 AFL clubs, four AFLW clubs, and a wide range of diverse communities throughout Australia,” Mr McLachlan said.
“They will play a crucial role in increasing cultural awareness, promoting inclusion and encouraging participation at all levels of Australian Football.
“We have increased the number of female ambassadors from two to four in 2017, which reflects the growing prominence of NAB AFL Women’s and the commitment we have made to build the foundations of women’s football.”
With Chinese and Italian heritage, Vescio’s role as an Ambassador will see her support the AFL’s female multicultural talent strategy as well as be involved in multicultural events, including the Toyota AFL Multicultural Round to be held in Round 19 of the 2017 season.
