As the Round 7 NAB AFL Rising Star nominee, Carlton youngster Samo Petrevski-Seton says he’s “really fortunate to be on board with the Blues”.

Since making his AFL debut in Round 1 against Richmond, the West Australian has shone among Carlton’s 22 with admirable composure and slick ball skills.

After he gathered 22 possessions and booted two goals in his most recent outing, the 19-year-old was proud to be acknowledged as one of the game’s up-and-coming talents.

“I’m privileged and honoured to be nominated for the Rising Star Award this year,” Petrevski-Seton told the media on Tuesday. 

“Also following Caleb Marchbank’s nomination last week, it’s good for the Club to get two nominations in two weeks.”

The Halls Creek cowboy made the journey from West Australia to Melbourne to pursue a football career at Carlton after being recruited to the Blues via pick No.6 in the 2016 NAB AFL draft. 

With an average of 15 disposals across the early stages of the 2017 season, Petrevski-Seton has made a promising start to his career under the guidance of “approachable” senior coach Brendon Bolton.

“Brendon Bolton has been really good for myself and for the other first-years as well,” Petrevski-Seton said.

“He wants to get us out of our comfort zones and (encourages us to) share our knowledge within the playing group. 

“He has a lot of care for us.”

Despite featuring in each of Carlton’s matches this year, the youngster conceded he was still learning the ropes of playing on the big stage but was pleased with his progress in the navy blue.

“I’m still finding my feet at the AFL level,” he explained.

“But I’m starting to be a bit more composed and play the footy that I want to play.”
 

With his next on-field opportunity on the horizon, the Round 7 Rising Star nominee has his sights set on another strong collective performance in Saturday's clash against an in-form St Kilda.

“If we execute it (game plan) well, we’ll perform well,” he said. 

“They’re (St Kilda) a really fast side that likes to get from their defence to their forward line pretty quick.

“It will be a very challenging game for myself and the playing group.”
