Carlton’s Liam Jones and Sam Docherty have been rewarded with ‘Team of the Week’ honours, following their efforts in Carlton’s eight-point loss to Essendon on Saturday.

The defensive stocks were named in AFL Media’s Round 20 team as half-backs, alongside Fremantle’s Luke Ryan. 

Docherty, who played a significant role in stemming Essendon’s early momentum, was named in this week’s line-up after he finished the match with 27 disposals and a team-high six rebound 50s.

Meanwhile Jones, with a game-high five contested marks and 12 intercepts, was selected in the best 22 following his superior performance on Bombers spearhead Joe Daniher. After the opening two goals of the match were secured via Daniher’s boot, Jones kept the Coleman Medal leader to just one for the remainder of the clash.

The Blues will look for another strong performance from the pair when the side travels west to face the West Coast Eagles from 5:40pm AWST on Saturday 12 August.
