OVERVIEW
Matthew Lobbe arrives at Carlton with plenty of AFL experience, having played nearly 100 games for Port Adelaide across 10 seasons. When the Power pushed up into premiership contention in 2013-2014, Lobbe was shouldering Port’s main ruck duties and was arguably one of the most dominant big men in the game. Heralded as the “most diligent trainer” at the Power and a role model to his younger teammates, Lobbe’s leadership qualities saw him elevated to joint vice-captain in 2015. The 28-year-old was awarded the Club’s Coaches’ award in 2014. Senior opportunities were limited this season, but he was still able to make a solid contribution for the Port Magpies in the SANFL, playing in the grand final against Sturt.

BEST AFL PERFORMANCE
Although Port Adelaide lost to Geelong in Round 20, 2013, Matthew Lobbe played a superb game. Not only did he collect a club-record 59 hit-outs, but he also gathered 17 disposals and six tackles.
WHAT WE CAN EXPECT
A true competitor at heart, Lobbe will add depth to Carlton’s ruck stocks next season as well as another big body. A respected club man at Port Adelaide, he’ll also be a valuable role model for Carlton’s young players.
Welcome, Matthew!
