CARLTON recruit Mitch McGovern says he is already counting down the days until he runs out at the MCG alongside his new teammates.
With over 90,000 fans coming out to see the Blues and Tigers clash in their traditional season-opener this year, there’s no doubt a packed stadium will greet the new Blue come March 21.
“That’s the whole reason I wanted to come across to Carlton,” the former Crow told media at Ikon Park today.
“Round 1 is a thing I’m looking forward to the most. I can’t explain my excitement for Round 1 and how big it is going to be.
“I don’t really want to play it up too much in my head so I can actually get there and get the real excitement of the game itself. I’m stoked and can’t wait to be playing in front of tens of thousands of Bluebagger fans.”
The five-plus year Blues players today joined the first-to-fourth year players in their first combined training session of the 2019 preseason, with Blues’ supporters watching on at Ikon Park.

McGovern said he was happy to fulfil whichever role was required of him come season 2019, although admitted his preference for playing up forward.
“We have got a lot of young talent especially in the tall forward department. Anything I can do to help them during the year is probably my main goal,” he said.
“In the forward line is where I’m most comfortable - whether that is centre-half forward or full-forward or even playing as a small forward under the big boys’ feet. It doesn’t really phase me too much.
“With the new starting positions, that can have a bit of an impact on different players so hopefully I would find myself there in some parts of the game. I’m more than comfortable to find myself high up the ground and watch Charlie (Curnow) and ‘H’ (Harry McKay) dominate.
“Whatever position ‘Bolts’ (senior coach Brendon Bolton) need me to play, I’m more than happy to put my head down and do it."
