CARLTON trails St Kilda by 23 points at half-time at Etihad Stadium, 8.10 (58) to 5.5 (35).
In a lively start from both sides, the Blues were dealt an early blow when ruckman Matthew Kreuzer left the ground in the opening 10 minutes.
The ruckman was experiencing a shortness of breath, and won't take any further part in the game as he continues to be monitored.
Carlton has struggled to get the ball in its attacking half, trailing the Saints for inside 50s (30-20).
FIRST QUARTER
It was a disparaging start for the Blues, with the Saints kicking the first two majors and claiming the first six inside 50s.
Patrick Cripps took a towering pack mark inside 50 for Carlton’s first goal of the match.
The Blues didn’t convert in the opening term; while the teams tied for inside 50s (12 apiece), the Saints led 4.5 (29) to Carlton 3.3 (21) at the end of the quarter.
Late shots for goal from both Jack Silvagni and Jarrod Garlett were missed opportunities.
Skipper Marc Murphy led the disposal count for both teams (10) while contested beast Cripps had seven contested possessions, three tackles and nine disposals.

SECOND QUARTER
St Kilda strengthened its lead to 23 points by half-time, recording the first eight inside 50s and three goals of the term.
Zac Fisher responded late in the quarter with the Blues’ first major for the term, weaving through the Saints' defence with his trademark dash and agility. The young midfielder contributed four tackles, 15 disposals and four contested possessions in the first half.
Let’s hope the Blues can bounce back following the main break.
