Northern Blues coach Josh Fraser assesses every Carlton-listed player who featured in the 130-point VFL loss to Collingwood on Saturday:
Tom De Koning
Stats: 8 disposals, 16 hitouts
From the coach: He didn’t have a massive impact on the game, but he continues to develop his ruck and forward craft. It was his first exposure to VFL footy and it was a good learning experience for him to see the level required.
Jesse Glass-McCasker
Stats: 4 disposals, 4 tackles
From the coach: We need Jesse to have more of a defensive mindset on his opponent. He had a couple of good contests where he engaged his opponent to affect the spoil: we need more of that from him in-game.
Nick Graham
Stats: 28 disposals, 10 tackles, 6 clearances, 1 goal
From the coach: Some of Nick’s work on the inside of the contest was really good, and he managed to hit the scoreboard. We’re trying to split his time mid-forward. He probably wasn’t as effective with ball in hand as we would’ve liked on the day.

Patrick Kerr
Stats: 9 disposals, 7 marks (4 inside 50), 3 goals
From the coach: Some of his leading patterns were terrific: he’s growing that part of his game well. He could’ve finished with a few more goals. He keeps learning his forward craft and he’ll get more reward for effort on a better day.

Sam Kerridge
Stats: 32 disposals, 11 handball receives, 7 clearances
From the coach: He spent the majority of the day playing inside, while we’d like to get him playing forward and on the wing at stages. He didn’t use the ball to the level which we know he’s capable of, but his effort around the contest was pleasing.

Kym Lebois
Stats: 11 disposals, 4 tackles, 2 goals
From the coach: I thought his game was his best for the club. Kym played with great energy and he worked really hard to apply defensive pressure. He finished with a few goals and should gain confidence from his performance.
Harry McKay
Stats: 7 disposals, 4 marks
From the coach: His aerial contest was very good - we’re seeing good growth there in his ability to either mark it or bring it to ground. He needs to work a bit harder off the ball with his leading patterns, but he’s starting to get continuity into his games and training.
Harrison Macreadie
Stats: 10 disposals
From the coach: Again as one our young defenders, he needs to continue learning when to engage an opponent and defend when he needs to. As a back-line, we were very reactive on the day. He’s a player who works really hard on his craft and we think he’ll turn it around quickly.
Lochie O’Brien
Stats: 12 disposals, 5 handball receives, 4 tackles
From the coach: We liked a lot of what Lochie was doing. He’s worked really hard on the running required at both AFL and VFL level. Playing mainly on the wing, he’s shown a real appetite to work as a young player.
Cameron O’Shea
Stats: 20 disposals, 5 tackles, 4 rebound 50s
From the coach: I thought his game was very good given the amount of ball coming his way. His intensity and application was at an AFL standard and he set an example for our younger players.

Andrew Phillips
Stats: 9 disposals, 37 hitouts, 1 goal
From the coach: I thought his game was another step forward for him. He took a few contested marks, rucked well and managed to kick a goal. We’re working on his ability to follow up and stay in the contest as someone who’s missed a fair bit of football. He’s progressing well.
Sam Rowe
Stats: 4 disposals, 3 tackles
From the coach: Similar to Phillips, ‘Rowey’ is someone who has missed a bit of football and is working his way into it. He competed at the level you’d expect of him - it’s about finding consistency in his footy now and continuing in the leadership role he’s playing for our young defenders.
Angus Schumacher
Stats: 11 disposals, 4 tackles
From the coach: A young defender who was one of a number that had his first exposure at the level, playing on established AFL players. It was a learning experience for him, and we’ll keep challenging him to find when to attack and defend at the right time. He played a bit as an inside midfielder and showed some positive signs.
Matt Shaw
Stats: 7 disposals, 3 tackles
From the coach: We’re trying to get consistency in his game-time - he played on the wing and a bit across half-back on Saturday. He’s someone who continues to work hard and he’ll get reward for effort as he keeps working on his positioning as a winger.
Jack Silvagni
Stats: 13 disposals, 5 inside 50s, 5 clearances, 1 goal
From the coach: I thought it was a pretty good game from Jack. His running patterns to lead up were encouraging, while his effort in the contest to stand up and be strong was positive. Some of his work as an inside midfielder was pleasing, finishing with a few clearances in his limited time there.
