CARLTON midfielder Paddy Dow has attended this year’s NAB AFL Rising Star award, after being nominated for his performance in Round 14.
Held at Peninsula in Docklands, Collingwood's Jaydyn Stephenson was crowned the overall winner, with Crow Tom Doedee and Lion Alex Witherden placing second and third, respectively.
Nominated for his standout performance against the Pies in Round 14, Dow gathered 20 disposals – including nine contested – as well as four clearances and four tackles.
At the time of his nomination, Dow said he was over the moon to be recognised in a quality field of players and was enjoying playing senior footy.
"I'm just getting experience each week and gaining confidence at that higher level, which is worth its weight in gold,” Dow said in June.
"I'm over the moon and couldn't be happier (about being a Rising Star nominee).
"It means a lot to me, being recognised for individual performance, especially in a game where we really fought hard against a quality side like Collingwood."
The young midfielder only missed two games this season in his debut year, and topped the stats sheet for clearances among his rising star counterparts. At the conclusion of the season, Dow ranked No. 1 among the rising stars for total clearances and 2nd for total centre clearances and total stoppage clearances.
In addition, he also ranked 2nd in total contested possessions and total bounces.
After making his debut against Richmond in the Round 1 season opener, the 18-year-old went on to kick seven goals in his first season, even earning a ‘Goal of the Year’ nomination in Round 19 against the Suns.
Carlton members and supporters can look forward to witnessing many more ‘Paddy Wow’ moments, with the young Blue extending his contract with the Club earlier this year until the end of 2022.
