CARLTON has secured experienced midfielder Jess Edwards in this year’s AFLW draft, recruiting the 28-year-old with pick No.42.
A strong leader on and off the field, Edwards was named captain of North Adelaide’s inaugural SANFL side in 2017 and was also handed skipper duties of Collingwood’s VFLW team this season.
Hailing from South Australia, she won Adelaide University’s best-and-fairest award in 2016 and is touted as a smooth mover in the midfield.
AFLW senior coach Daniel Harford said he was impressed by Edward’s football nous and attitude.
“As captain of Collingwood’s VFLW side this year, Jess has shown tremendous leadership qualities and takes a very professional approach to her footy,” Harford said.
“On the field, she constantly puts her body on the line and brings her teammates into the game, while tackling and running are two of her passions.”
Welcome, Jess!
