YOUNG Carlton forward Pat Kerr is making a big mark in the VFL.
The second-year Blue amassed 16 disposals, nine marks and four goals in his return from a one-week injury layoff in the Northern Blues’ 83-point win over Frankston at SkyBus Stadium on Saturday.
On his 20th birthday, the 194cm spearhead spoke with Carlton Media about the team’s powerful third term, his own performance, his recovery from injury and the lessons learned from his AFL experience so far this season.
On the half-time message:
“The coach's (Josh Fraser) message at half-time was just about the fundamentals. It was good to get a bit of a tickle about some sloppy areas and skill areas. So, we tidied up on those things and the team just happened to click in the third and we ran away with 10 goals in that half which was great.”
On his performance:
“I was glad to find some form on the weekend. I was a little bit inaccurate in front of goal but just to finally get back and play a full game this week was really pleasing and to have some impact not just on the scoreboard but around the ground was really pleasing as well.”

On injury:
"I had the week off (after the win over the Williamstown). The body was sore. I had a good week training, felt good and was happy to bounce back.”
On his AFL experience:
“The four (AFL) games have been great. I’ve learnt a whole lot – not just on what is required but on positioning with my body and the speed of the game. There is a real gap between VFL and AFL, but it’s been about being able to adjust as quickly as I can and then using the resources around me. The other players and players from other teams as well are something that I’ve utilised and that has made things a little bit easier.”
On the VFL's White Ribbon Round:
“It’s the White Ribbon Round this week. Violence against women is something I think the Club and personally I hold very close to my chest. It’s nothing we should tolerate around the country and even the world. It’s something we should all make a big stand against. To be able to play this week for that is a big honour and I’m really proud of it.”
