CARLTON has continued its impressive start to the 2018 VFLW season with a comprehensive 46-point win over the Western Bulldogs at RAMS Arena today.

For the second straight week, the Blues led from start to finish, coming away with a 9.7.61 to 2.3.15 result.

It was a consistent team effort across the board which got the job done for Carlton, having big winners across every line.

After a tense opening to the game which resulted in 19 goalless minutes, VFLW-listed Katelyn Cox kicked the first of the day.

It seemed to break the shackles for the Blues, who took the game by the scruff of the neck after quarter-time at Craigieburn’s RAMS Arena.

Carlton dominated the inside-50 count in the second quarter, with goals to Darcy Vescio and Kimberley Cunico opening up a 22-point lead at the main break.

The defensive unit of the Blues held firm, keeping the Bulldogs goalless for the entire first half.

The Blues were made to work early in the third quarter, with the Dogs shifting the momentum in their favour to bring it back to an attainable 15 points on the scoreboard.

However, three goals in two minutes for the Blues took the game completely away from their opponents.

Playing her first game of the VFLW season, Kate Shierlaw’s late goal opened up a 33-point lead at the last change.

The Blues didn’t look back from there, going onto record their second victory from as many starts to start their campaign.

Breann Moody was once again central to her side’s fortunes, surging the Blues forward from the middle of the ground for the second straight week.

She was supported by Jess Hosking and Sophie Li, who both put together strong performances and pushed forward with good effect. Hosking recorded two final-quarter goals, while Li kicked a goal in the third term.

Shierlaw (two goals) and Vescio were constant threats in the forward line, while Chloe Dalton showed some positive signs in her debut.

Carlton will look to continue its winning start to the year when it takes on Hawthorn at Box Hill City Oval on Saturday. The game begins at 11:30am.
