The Carlton Banquet Auction was an enormous success last Saturday night with Bjorn Again ensuring all guests had a memorable evening. As well as being an enjoyable evening it was also a record breaking night for the Club with over $500,000 raised for the Club.
This is a record for a Carlton Football Club Banquet Auction and the money will be used to assist with the redevelopment to provide the Carlton players with the very best facilities and support.
One of the highlights of the evening was the sale of two very special Carlton guernseys. The guernseys were framed and sold as one item, one Carlton home guernsey and one clash guernsey from last year. What made these guernseys so special were the signatures that featured on them – All of All of Carlton’s living premiership players since 1938.
101 Carlton premiership players signed these guernseys - 13,850 games, 10,026 goals, 171 Premierships, 46 Best & Fairest Awards and a Brownlow Medal
Names like Nicholls, Hands, Doull, Croswell, Kernahan, Fitzpatrick, Jesaulenko, Southby, Keogh, Bradley, Williams, Silvagni, Johnston, Walls, Koutoufides and many more. Players who have helped make Carlton’s great history.
The winning bid of $30,000 come from Bernie Shackcloth, a Carlton member from Darwin who flew down to be at the function on Saturday night. And Bernie said the special item is worth every cent.
Other items of interest to be auctioned during the evening included Chris Judd’s first worn Carlton guernsey in an AFL game (v Richmond in round one) - $8,000 and the guernsey worn by Matthew Kreuzer in his AFL debut (round three v Essendon) - $6,000. Both guernseys were signed by the Carlton debutant and framed.
Mamma Mia what a great night it was for the guests and also for the Carlton Football Club
