STAR Blues Brianna Davey and Madison Prespakis have taken out honours at the AFL Players 2019 AFLW Awards on Monday.
Midfielder Madison Prespakis was voted the 2019 AFLW Best First Year Player, while skipper Brianna Davey walked away with the 2019 AFLW Best Captain award.
Davey edged out Adelaide duo Erin Phillips and Chelsea Randall to win Best Captain, with 53 votes to their 52 and 45 respectively.
After rupturing her right ACL in her first year as captain, Davey sat out the majority of the 2018 season.
Returning to play every match in 2019, Davey averaged 16 disposals in a season that saw her swing freely from defence to attack as needed.
The skipper also received a nod for the Most Courageous Award, polling third behind Fremantle’s Kiara Bowers and Adelaide’s Chelsea Randall.
Meanwhile, NAB AFLW Rising Star favourite Madison Prespakis began what could be an award-ladened week for the youngster.
Prespakis well and truly eclipsed the competition for Best First Year Player, polling 149 votes – 114 more than second-placed Alyce Parker from GWS.
Prespakis arrived at Carlton as pick No.3 in the 2018 AFLW draft after a decorated under-18s career and made an immediate impact on debut.
Averaging 20 disposals across the season, Prespakis has become known for her tough in-and-under attack through the midfield and her classy ball-use.
Prespakis picked up a Rising Star nomination for her efforts against the Crows in Round 2, racking up 20 disposals and a goal for the day. The NAB AFLW Rising Star will be named at tomorrow’s W Awards.
Adelaide’s Erin Phillips took out the top honour of 2019 AFLW Most Valuable Player, finishing ahead of Fremantle’s Kiara Bowers and Collingwood’s Ashleigh Brazill.
