IMPORTANT talls Mitch McGovern and Caleb Marchbank continue to build momentum in their recovery from injury, with both providing optimism for hundreds of Blues fans who watched training on Friday morning.
Former Adelaide swingman McGovern, who suffered a non-displaced fracture in his back in the Blues' last session before Christmas, was a welcome sight for the Carlton faithful as he jogged laps of Ikon Park.
During the three-week break over the festive season McGovern was limited in his movement so he focused on cross-training. He is clearly pleased to be back on the track, as evidenced by some of his jovial interactions with fans.
The 24-year-old also practiced set-shot goalkicking alongside new forward partners Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay, showing no difficulty kicking from about 45 metres.

"I'm progressing and hopefully I'll be integrating into training over the next few days and, fingers crossed, I'll be back in full training in a week or so," McGovern told the club website on Thursday.
"My focus for the rest of the pre-season is just my fitness base. I've missed the last couple of weeks so I'm a bit behind the boys now, so (I want) to catch up as quick as I can, and at the same time just try to get the chemistry with the forward line."
Marchbank, who is on his way back from a foot injury, ran laps at a solid pace with no apparent discomfort, before doing some kicking. He doesn't seem far away from joining full training.
Former Giants midfielder Will Setterfield is also making strong progress in his recovery from the knee reconstruction he underwent last February with the young recruit involved in ball-movement and tackling drills.
Former Collingwood forward Alex Fasolo also trained early before leaving the main group to complete some running.
Darcy Lang (foot) worked with the rehab group but Jarrod Pickett (knee) wasn't sighted.
Former skipper Marc Murphy looks to be in superb condition and somewhat slimmer after an injury-plagued 2018 season in which he missed nine games. For some time after training had finished, Murphy pushed himself through a hard running session.
Heavy rain made for slippery conditions and some ultra-competitive match simulation, during which fans were excited by the sight of the Silvagni brothers, fourth-year player Jack and draftee Ben, matching up on one another.
Despite the conditions, forward Levi Casboult was also prominent with his set-shot kicking at goal, at one point nailing six in succession.
The Blues will travel to Maroochydore for a training camp in early February ahead of the JLT Community Series.
