WITH new faces around them and time to build chemistry, Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay are hopeful they can form a formidable forward partnership for Carlton.
The twin towers arrived at the Blues at the same time - the 2015 NAB AFL Draft - and are just beginning to grow alongside one another as key pillars in navy blue.
Now, after a full pre-season training in tandem, they’re hopeful a strong relationship off the field can produce results on the field.
“I’ve known Big H for a long time now,” Curnow said.
“It’s been a really good time developing our forward craft together and working really well with each other this pre-season, getting a lot more time to play together.”

“The relationship is really strong. I came into the Club with Charlie and we’re really close — we’ve played a bit of footy together and spent a lot of time together,” McKay said.
“No matter the situation, he’s always got a positive outlook and a smile on his face. It’s fun sharing the field with him and he’s really cool to be around.”
While they’ve only played 14 games alongside one another, the final month of 2018 showed how the duo could click in future.
Collectively, they combined for 15 goals in five games and averaged over 10 marks a game between them.
With an extended run at it and the opportunity to develop with some new acquisitions, they’re both optimistic of what the future can bring — starting with this year.
“We’re both quite athletic key forwards and I think last year - at times - we showed we can work well together. I think we complement each other quite well,” McKay said.
“Throwing Mitch [McGovern] and ‘Fas’ in the equation, it can be a pretty scary forward line I think when we’re all up and going. I’m looking forward to what that might bring.”

In particular, Curnow is keen to see what his fellow graduate from the 2015 draft class can bring in his fourth season in navy blue.
“The big fella has had a few injuries and setbacks, but he has worked really well through them,” Curnow said.
“I think the fans of the Carlton Football Club will be really excited to see him out there on the track, he’s going to turn some heads that’s for sure.”
And how about Harry’s outlook for Charlie in 2019?
“He’s hopefully going to have another big year. He’s played some good footy in the past already so I’m looking forward to what 2019 might bring.”
