WHILE a 72-point loss isn't the ideal way to move into a finals campaign, Carlton coach Brett Ratten had a clear message for his players after Saturday's defeat by Adelaide - be disappointed, learn, and move on.

Adelaide's 12-goal romp over the Blues meant Carlton lost the right to host a final at the MCG, and must now travel to Brisbane to take on the Lions at the Gabba this Saturday night.

After so many years in the wilderness, midfielder Andrew Carrazzo said the venue was almost irrelevant.

"From where we've come, I don't think it would have mattered if we were playing in Timbuktu on the weekend – we'd like to play finals footy anywhere," Carrazzo said on Monday.

"It's not ideal that it's away, but we've won in Brisbane in the last two years, so that gives us confidence."

The Blues' midfield unit had an outing to forget against the Crows, but Marc Murphy felt the performance was more of a one-off than a sign of any deeper concerns.

"It's not how far you fall, but how high you bounce. That's something that 'Ratts' has instilled in us this week, and we're looking forward to putting our best foot forward on Saturday night," Murphy said.

"We're trying to put last week's game behind us, because that's the end of the [home-and-away season], and if you lose now you're out. We're going forward with confidence and positivity rather than looking back at last week's game."

Eddie Betts, Jeff Garlett and Cameron Cloke were missing from Saturday's side after serving well-publicised club-imposed bans for turning up late to a recovery session.

Carrazzo, a member of the leadership group, denied the events of the week had been a distraction, and disputed the notion that the trio's indiscretion was somehow magnified by the disappointing loss.

"Before the weekend's result, they let us down a lot regardless of the result," he said.

"I think the result on the weekend was inconsequential [in that regard]. It might have looked a bit worse because we lost and we probably lacked a couple of guys out there that would have definitely helped us, but not at all.

"As soon as the decision was handed down, they all trained really well which was good to see. I'm sure those three boys will be available, and hopefully if they come in they can have a good game for us."

The Blues at least escaped with no new injury concerns out of Saturday's game, but the Lions are not so lucky, with a host of players including Simon Black, Josh Drummond, Daniel Bradshaw and Daniel Merrett in some doubt for this week.

However, Bryce Gibbs said that would have little bearing on Carlton's preparation.

"Guys will do everything they can to get their bodies up for finals," Gibbs said.

"We'll plan and expect them to play, and if they do well that's fine, and if they don't that'll be no worries as well. We're not going to go into the game any differently."

The Blues will train on Tuesday and Wednesday before flying out for Brisbane on Thursday.
