CARLTON coach Brett Ratten says a contract extension would be great but, as yet, nobody has moved toward making it happen.

Ratten, who was signed to a two-year deal at the end of 2007, was speaking on Wednesday morning after chief executive Greg Swann and captain Chris Judd made the announcement that the Blues' training base at Princes Park will now be known as Visy Park.

He said he was surprised to read about the idea of the contract extension in the press.

"I think it'd be great, but the first I heard of it was when I grabbed a coffee on the way to training and I looked at the paper," Ratten said.

"That's the first time I've heard about it and I found it quite amusing.

"But I'm not really worried about all that until the year's finished, and if the club think I deserve an extension, I'd love to get one."

And it appears that the club does indeed think Ratten – the only one of last year's new coaches not to get a three year deal – should get an extension.

Swann agreed nothing had yet been put on the table, but said that after the terrific year Carlton has had, the club would look favourably on the idea.

"He's just up the back, Brett, and his ears have sparked up a bit hearing that," Swann said with a laugh.

"Look, at the end of the season we do a review like we do every other year, and part of that is what we do with the senior coach.

"We'd certainly be looking very favourably at extending Brett's contract because the club's improved tremendously and we think there's more improvement to come, so that'll be done in due course."
