A STIRRING second half of the season will have Carlton full of confidence with 2019 coming to a close.

Familiar faces fired in Navy Blue while the Club’s emerging youngsters owned the future in a campaign which saw the Blues record seven wins for the year.

With the home-and-away season now over, we’re going through every player who featured for Carlton at senior level in 2019.

Here’s the year that was for Carlton’s No. 10, Harry McKay.

OVERVIEW

Harry McKay joined an impressive group of up-and-coming Blues to have stamped a name for themselves in 2019 — and he was arguably the pick of the bunch.

The key forward had his most consistent year in Navy Blue so far, playing 20 games in 2019 and finishing as Carlton’s leading goalkicker.

With Charlie Curnow sidelined through injury for the majority of the season, McKay was more than equipped to step up to the plate as the Blues primary avenue to goal.

McKay’s contested marking prowess was on display for the competition to see in 2019, with his aerial dominance placing him third in the competition for the statistic.

BEST PERFORMANCE

It’s no surprise that McKay’s best performance coincided with an emphatic Carlton win to get them on the board in 2019.

The Blues were dominant from the outset against the Western Bulldogs in Round 5, with McKay running riot at Marvel Stadium with four goals.

One of many in-form Blues on the day, McKay’s influence didn’t go unnoticed, collecting a perfect 10 coaches’ votes. To go with his scoreboard impact was a career-high 20 disposals, 11 marks (five contested) and 10 score involvements.

SEASON HIGHLIGHT

It was the goal that topped off a breakout season for McKay.

It was an arm-wrestle all day at the MCG when Carlton faced St Kilda in front of 51,000 people in Round 22.

With just over seven minutes to play in the last quarter and the Blues boasting only a three-point lead, someone had to step up to seal the deal.

Enter Harry.

With a stunning snap from 45 metres which Dermott Brereton dubbed his goal of the year, McKay finished the hero for the Blues and cemented a final win for the 2019 season.

THEY SAID IT

Harry McKay garnered some high-profile praise for his contested marking abilities midway through the season.

Speaking following the Blues win over the Bulldogs, Matthew Lloyd was quick to credit McKay for the dominant performance.

“I think he’s the best pack mark since Travis Cloke,” Lloyd said about the young gun.

“I don’t think anyone else across the competition is marking some of the balls that McKay is taking as a 20-game player.”
