The Carlton Football Club's Vice President, Jeanne Pratt, has been named the 2013 Victorian of the Year.
Mrs Pratt was honoured at a ceremony in Melbourne on Monday July 1, along with youth suicide prevention campaigner Nichole Hussey, who was named Young Victorian of the Year.
The trustees of the Victorian Day Council, who select the annual winners, say Mrs Pratt has been an important supporter of the arts.
"She has been a key promoter, not only of art galleries but also of theatre, youth theatre and opera," the trustees said in a statement.
Being named 2013's Victorian of the Year adds to a whole list of accolades, including being awarded an Order of Australia in 1989 and acknowledged as part of the Queen's Birthday honours in 2002.
This award comes at a very fitting time, with the annual Richard Pratt Cup to be played this Friday against Collingwood at the MCG.
Since 2009, the Blues and the Pies have battled it out for the Richard Pratt Cup to raise awareness of the incidences of prostate cancer in Australian men. The match is played in memory of Jeanne's late husband and former Carlton President, Richard Pratt, who passed away from the disease.
The Carlton Football Club pays tribute to this extraordinary lady.
