CARLTON will continue their David Parkin Apprentice Program in 2025, furthering its efforts to create well-rounded people rather than just footballers.

Running since 2022, the program focuses on first- and second-year players, fostering strong relationships within the group, supporting them as they navigate the early stages of their careers, and encouraging them to explore interests beyond football.

Through weekly sessions, the group explores a wide range of topics and experiences, including wellbeing, cultural awareness, financial literacy, and career planning.

In 2024, participants in the David Parkin Apprentice Program engaged with professional industries such as Cricket Victoria, the Australian Open, the Australian Grand Prix, and the Carlton Fire Station, gaining diverse insights into various career pathways.

The program aims to ensure young players transition smoothly into the Club and adapt effectively to the high-performance environment. It also supports healthy transitions out of football, equipping participants with the skills and preparation needed for life beyond their AFL careers.

The program has been named after Club legend David Parkin who coached Carlton from 1981-1985 and 1991-2000, taking the Blues to three premierships in 1981, 1982 and 1995.

Parkin has said that investing in player welfare and preparing players for lives beyond football is critical, and research has shown that it improves on-field performance.
