POTENTIAL father-daughter selection Sophie McKay has today formally nominated to join Carlton in this year’s Telstra AFLW Draft.

McKay is the daughter of 244-gamer Andrew, who played at Carlton between 1993 and 2003, and the sister of Abbie, the current co-vice captain of the Blues' AFLW side.

Andrew played in Carlton's last winning premiership in 1995, was a former captain of the Blues and is a member of the Club's Hall of Fame, while he also served as the Blues' Head of Football from 2011 to 2018.

Sophie is a familiar face around IKON Park, having participated in the Carlton Academy since her junior years as well as being a constant face at AFLW games in support of Abbie, who was the AFLW competition's inaugural father-daughter recruit.

A classy midfielder with elite speed that has shown her ability to hit the scoreboard, McKay has plied her trade with the Sandringham Dragons, as well as featuring with Vic Metro, the AFLW Marsh National Academy and her school team Melbourne Girls Grammar in recent years.

She has been no stranger to big performances, named as best-on-ground in Melbourne Girls Grammar's 2023 premiership win, the under-17 Futures game last year and for the Academy against the All Stars earlier this year.

The 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft will be held on Monday 16 December.
