CARLTON'S Jess Dal Pos will bid farewell to the game after an incredible AFLW career.

Dal Pos, an inaugural player in the competition, has featured in every season since the inception of the AFLW. The 31-year-old has played 69 games across the nine seasons, at GWS and Carlton.

Arriving at the Blues at the end of 2021 with a wealth of experience following five seasons at the Giants, Dal Pos quickly became a fan favourite, not missing a game across the two 2022 campaigns.

Selected in 2016 by GWS, the forward was one of the club's priority picks leading up to the league's inaugural season, starring at the highest level from the beginning.

The 31-year-old has been a stalwart of the game, known for her hard-hitting tackles and forward strength.

After just one season at senior level, Dal Pos earned her maiden All-Australian selection in 2017 and was awarded the Giants’ best and fairest award. Named Carlton co-vice captain in 2022 and 2023, Dal Pos has been a pivotal figure both on the field and off the field.

Transitioning from the leadership group to the coaching team in 2024, Dal Pos featured as a playing coach, helping to increase the connection and synergy between coaches and players.

Dal Pos said she was appreciative of the Carlton members and fans for embracing her wholeheartedly.

“Ever since joining the Blues, I have felt so welcomed and loved by the incredible supporters: throughout my injuries last year, the thought of playing in front of the Carlton fans was something that drove me to work hard and get my body right.

“My time within the AFLW, at the Giants and the Blues has been nothing short of incredible. It has been a long journey, having played over 150 games at Darebin Falcons.

“Seeing the change and evolution of AFLW has been wonderful and it has been so special playing a role in growing the opportunities for more women to play elite sport.

“I am excited to see where this Club is headed, and although I am retiring, there is no doubt I am going to be cheering on from the sidelines.

“I also wanted to express huge thank you to the S&C and medical staff who have helped me throughout my run of injuries, I owe them a lot for their passion and time they have devoted to my rehab.

“I am grateful for everyone who has played a part in my career, especially for my family who has supported me every step of the way. They have been instrumental in their support and commitment, not only to myself but to the growth of women’s footy in general.

“Football has been a huge part of my life, and it will continue to be, even in my retirement, but I am excited for all the opportunities that will come.”

AFLW Senior Coach Mathew Buck said the Club was honoured to play a part in Dal Pos’ football journey.

“Jess has been a true pioneer for the game, and it has been a privilege to coach her across the last two seasons and more recently work with her as a playing coach.” Buck said.

“Her knowledge and experience at the highest level has been invaluable. Having Jess be a clear link between the coaches and players and watching her develop in her coaching ability throughout the year has been excellent.

“Jess has had a hard run with injuries over the past few seasons but has never let them define her. The resilience she has shown throughout, to get her body right is a true testament to her hard work and dedication to the sport.

“We thank Jess for her contribution to the Club and the sport and wish her well in her retirement.”

Dal Pos will undergo a fitness test on her calf injury to determine her availability to play in the side's clash with Essendon on Saturday.
