THE Carlton Football Club have acquired a second-round selection in the final hour of the 2024 Continental Tyres Trade Period.

In addition to acquiring pick No. 3 overall yesterday, today’s deal has provided the Club with added flexibility over the next month in regard to its list and draft position.

Further bolstering the Blues’ draft hand, Carlton received pick No.38 (via Geelong in a four-way trade) in exchange for Matt Kennedy to the Western Bulldogs.

Joining the Blues at the end of 2017 from Greater Western Sydney, Kennedy went on to play seven seasons, playing a number of different roles for the Club.

Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin said today’s deal allows for adaptability when entering the draft next month, as well as effective list management for the Club’s future.

“Today’s acquisition of a second-round draft pick provides greater list flexibility ahead of a very strong draft group, as well as for the Club’s list moving forward.

“This selection opens up a number of avenues for us and we will explore how this plays out over the next month ahead of the upcoming draft.

“We want to sincerely thank Matt for his time and commitment at the Blues.

“Matt made it clear his desire for more time in the midfield at AFL level, and we appreciate his want to seek this out during the trade period. He is a person of wonderful character, who works hard and looks out for his teammates on and off the field.

“We hope for the best for him at his new club.

“The deal made today provides us with further options we will now explore and look to execute in line with our strategy, which we have been pleased to have successfully executed to this point of the trade and draft period.”

Carlton ends the 2024 Continental Tyres Trade Period with picks Nos.3, 38, 63, 68, 69 and 72 in the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft, with picks able to be traded up until and including draft day.
